What's Buzzing and Happening in Temburong?
The new Bumiputera complex in Bangar Temburong was swarmed with people from all over Temburong for the Riang Ria Daerah Temburong which was organised by the Youth and Sports Department Temburong in co-operation with Kelab Pusat Belia Daerah Temburong. The event started at 7 o'clock in the morning and by the time I arrived in Bangar, It was difficult to find an empty parking space to park my car as I needed to see my six year old brother, Izz, who was involved in the drawing competition. Soon, I gave up looking for a parking space near the building and I parked my car near the tamu area instead (which means I had to walk a bit!). But I was a bit disappointed as I couldn't take photos of my brother because the drawing competition was already over! Nevertheless, we stayed to wait for the prize presentation. While waiting we went to the river bank to watch people fishing as the fishing competition was still on. When we were back at the Bumiputra building, waiting, the announcer (a guy from Persatuan Belia Temburong) quizzed some people from the crowd. The prizes were not bad! When that was over, the announcer announced that some local artistes from Bandar Seri Begawan were coming to promote their compilation album! So, many people who were about to leave stayed. Not long after, at about 10.30 am, two DJs from the No. 1 radio In Brunei, DJ Didi and DJ Zati of Pelangi FM, opened the show! People were excited and thrilled! Faiz, Fairuzneezan, Fakhrul Razi and Sri Nazrina and Hans Anuar were in Temburong this morning to promote 'Seperti yang lain'. For the opening act, Sri Nazrina (we were in the same school together and today, we were introduced by Cg. Rustiah who also used to teach in our school) sang he song from the compilation CD. She was not only pretty but had a beautiful voice. Then came another local songbird, Fairuzneezan. Like Sri, she was pretty and had a good voice. After her, Faiz came on stage and sang his song from the CD and after him came the fun Fakhrul Razi. He even pulled a couple of girls to dance with him! Overall, the show was fantastic! The singers were awesome and the people especially the children seemed to enjoy them (or just wanting to grab free posters from their hands!!) In between of the singing performances, DJ Didi and DJ Zati called people from the audience randomly and ask them questions about the CD and the artistes. I too was pulled from the audience by DJ Zati and I also took Izz with me! We stood in the middle of the crowd and DJ Zati started to ask me questions. She asked for my name and I said Nazri. She also asked whether I was a local or not and I said 'yes' that I was a local and lived in Kampong Negalang. She also wanted to know what was unique about my Kampong. And I answered every Kampong in Temburong was the same! (Do you think that answered her question??) She also asked me what do I think about such an event and I answered It was a happening one and very seldom in Temburong had an event like that! The last question she asked me what was another popular thing in Temburong and come from Temburong besides Wajid Jawa (a very popular delicacy amongst Bruneians) and I answered Cendol Temburong and she agreed! DJ Zati was very nice! So, in return, she gave me souvenirs which comprised of a poster, a calender of Farawahida and Media Hiburan! Hopefully I would get a call to collect 'Seperti yang lain' CD! After that was done, there was the autograph signing session. However, we didn't manage to get our poster signed (Maybe next time guys?). When that was over, the children who joined the drawing competition were called to sit in front of the stage for the prize presentation. My brother, Izz, didn't receive any but our cousin, Taufiq, received one (and it is his birthday today!) By the time it was over, the time was already around 12 pm. I would like to say congratulations and a BIG 'thank you' to the organisers of Riang Ria Daerah Temburong for organising such an event for the locals and also a big shout out to Pelangi FM, and the artistes who came to promote the compilation CD, 'Seperti yang lain'. Thank you for the fantastic show! It was a very memorable one! Overall it was a five-star day!! I have taken some photos which I've posted for you to enjoy!

Temburong - a worth while visiting!
Thinking of travelling to Temburong? If you are planning to travel to Temburong and you haven't been there yet, first you need to choose the mode of transportation. If you choose to go by boat, you pay $12 return ($6 per trip) which usually take you 45 minutes to reach Bangar from the Jetty at Jalan Residency in Bandar Seri Begawan. There is no fixed schedule for the rides. The first boat to Bangar from Bandar Seri Begawan is at 6 am and the last boat of the day to Bangar is at 5 pm. However the last boat to Bandar Seri Begawan from Bangar is at 4.30 pm. Mind you, if you are not used to travel by boat, you might get sea sick and sometimes the rides get too bumpy! Nonetheless, the journey by boat is so exciting especially when the weather is fine. For a first-timer, it might be an adventure! If you are lucky, you might come across crocodiles having their sun bath especially during low tides! However, like myself, I don't like it when you are in the boat when it rains. It can get warm inside the boat as the windows are closed. So, It can be uncomfortable. But, If you and the one sitting next to you don't mind getting droplets of rain, you can open the window close to you to let air inside.
If you think travelling by boat is not your thing, you can travel by car. You reach Temburong after approximately one hour drive through Limbang, a district of Sarawak, Malaysia. It's more convenient as it is difficult to go places in Temburong without your own transport. There are no public buses and taxis. There used to be one, but it seems it no longer operates. If you need to buy fuel for your car, Temburong has two filling stations. One is in Bangar going up the road to Batang Duri and the other is in Kampong Negalang (where I live) which is about 8 km from Bangar.
You might ask me what can you find in Bangar, what is so special about Temburong? When you reach Bangar by boat or by car, there is nothing much to see. There are no big shopping centres! That is what most Bruneians commented on Bangar. However, if your purpose to go to Temburong is not to shop, then you come to the right place! But don't worry, Bangar has a beautiful new building which was designed to reflect Temburong's ethnic diversity called the Bangunan Bumiputera which houses small shops and cafes. And if you still don't know what's in Temburong, It is popular for its Ulu Temburong National Park, Cendol Temburong and Wajid Temburong! So travellers, aim for that!
I will keep you posted on events and happenings in Temburong as well as articles for your reading pleasure! Keep on supporting!

To get to Temburong
By boat
Spead boats between Bandar Seri Begawan and Bangar run from 7am to 5pm. One way fares are $6 and the journey takes 45 minutes. The ride is quite interesting as the boats weave through the many river channels at the mouth of the Temburong and Brunei Rivers. Boats dock at the main jetty in town while in Bandar, they leave from the jetty near the foodstalls at Jalan Residency just east of the city centre across the Sungai Kianggeh bridge.

By road
As Temburong is separated from the rest of Brunei by Sarawak, you will have to go through Malaysian territory (and past through four sets of immigration checkpoints) to travel from Bandar Seri Begawan to Bangar. A main road runs from the Sarawak border at Puni (Pandaruan on the Sarawak side) in the west through Bangar (Puni to Bangar: 5km), to the Labu border crossing in the east (Labu to Bangar: 20km), where the road continues to Lawas. At Puni, there is a ferry bringing vehicles (RM8 or B$4) across the Pandaruan River to the main road to Limbang 14km away. From Limbang, you can proceed to Bandar Seri Begawan via the Kuala Lurah-Tedungan border checkpoint.
Immigration formalities for those coming from Bandar Seri Begawan and Limbang have become easier with the opening of the Malaysian immigration checkpoint at Pandaruan near the ferry landing since June 2007. Previously, you had to get your Malaysian exit stamp at Limbang Wharf before going to Pandaruan. The Brunei checkpoint is about 600m from the ferry landing, and occupies a wooden one-storey building on the right (south) side of the road.
If coming from Lawas, you will have to get your Malaysia exit stamp at the Mengkalap Immigration and Customs office at Trusan before proceeding to the actual border about 8km away. The immigration office is located at a shoplot off the main road just east of the Trusan River ferry. Brunei's Labu checkpoint is at the actual border.
You will likely find yourself going through Temburong if you are travelling overland between the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak. See Kota Kinabalu to Brunei in a day.

Getting around
Bangar is small enough for you to walk around, although it could be quite a hike in the hot sun to get to the administrative offices across the river from the commercial area.
Temburong basically has two main roads, one stretching from its eastern border with Sarawak at Puni, through Bangar, to the western border, again with Sarawak, at Labu, a total of about 25km. The other main road runs south from Bangar to Batang Duri.
You can hire bicycles from the Maryani Camping Shop at Bangar for B$30 dollars a day.
